Vargas, who underwent Tommy John surgery last July, has been throwing for over two months and has two rehab appearances under his belt with the Royals' rookie-level club in Arizona. During Friday's outing, Vargas struck out six batters in 2.1 innings and reported no setbacks, but he'll still have to bump up his pitch count closer before the Royals feel comfortable bringing him back. Given how much time he's missed already this season, don't expect Vargas to have a major role for the Royals once he's activated.
