Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have made "real progress" in contract talks with reliever J.P. Howell. Howell, 30, had a 2.03 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 62 innings this past season while holding left-handed batters to a .164/.225/.227 bating line. The Dodgers reportedly have interest in bringing him back.
