The Tigers placed Cabrera (calf) on the 15-day disabled list Saturday. Cabrera will land on the disabled list for the first time in his career after suffering a left calf strain in Friday's game. It's not clear how long he will be sidelined, but he will be out at least until the first Sunday after the All-Star break. The Tigers will have to get creative at first base in Cabrera's absence, with utility infielder Andrew Romine being the only other player on the roster to start a game at first base this season.
