The Philadelphia Phillies will activate second baseman Chase Utley from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's game against the San Diego Padres after he recovered from an ankle injury, according to the team's official website. Utley, who has been sidelined since late June as a result of the injury, has struggled mightily with the big club this season, hitting just .179/.257/.275 over 65 games, but he has performed well during his rehab assignment, tallying six hits in 11 at-bats with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. There has been no word as to Utley's role upon his return, as he had lost the starting job to Caesar Hernandez prior to sustaining the injury. The Phillies will enter the Friday's game against the Padres with a 42-67 record, the worst in baseball, which puts them firmly in last place in the National League East division.
