The Mets and Walker (back) may be close to reaching an agreement on a three-year deal worth in the vicinity of $40 million, SNY.TV reports.
EDGE Analysis
Walker, who accepted the Mets' one-year, $17.2 million qualifying offer in November, was close to inking a similar deal at the time but took the one-year tender offer, enabling the two sides more time to talk. New York has very little second base depth in the organization, having dealt Dilson Herrera to the Reds in the Jay Bruce, as T.J. Rivera or Gavin Cecchini, if he transitioned to the keystone position, would likely be next in line. Walker is coming off a career-year and has expressed his desire to remain in New York, while the Mets will likely take some of the $17.2 million for this year and move it into the future years on the deal.
