The Marlins claimed Claiborne off waivers from the Yankees on Tuesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. Claiborne lost his spot on the Yankees' 40-man roster last week after the team acquired Gonzalez Germen from the Mets, but the Marlins will afford him a chance to compete for a middle-relief role in the spring barring another acquisition during the offseason. While Claiborne's 3.3% HR/FB rate seems likely to rise next season, the damage may be offset to a large extent by the move to spacious Marlins Park.
