Smyly (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off a mound Saturday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. A bout of shoulder tendinitis sent Smyly to the shelf earlier this month, but he's extended his long toss to 100 feet without issue and now appears set to resume mound work in the days ahead. The Rays have effectively ruled Smyly out for his first start of the year, but manager Kevin Cash has said that he thinks the lefty will only be skipped once.
