Richard declined his opt-out clause and will pitch in the Pirates' extended spring training, possibly followed by a move to Triple-A Indianapolis, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Richard will not begin the season with the Pirates, but likely feels the organization is his best chance at a shot back in the bigs. The 31-year-old missed most of 2014 due to thoracic outlet syndrome, but appears to be managing the issue in regards to pitching. While it's possible he resurfaces in the majors at some point in 2015, he could also serve as organizational depth.
