Pitching coach Dan Warthen said Saturday that Reed is "penciled in" as the Mets' setup man heading into the season, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reed experienced a bit of a resurgence in New York last season, working a 1.17 ERA over 17 appearances after laboring to a 4.20 ERA with the Diamondbacks earlier in the season. The 26-year-old right hander has the ability to lock down the Mets' eighth inning role given the competition he'll face from the likes of Antonio Bastardo and Sean Gilmartin, although that pairing could see some time at that slot if they're facing a group of lefties.
