Pirates designated RHP Chad Beck for assignment. The Pirates needed a spot on the 40-man roster after the Joel Hanrahan trade. Beck, who was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays back in October, posted an ugly 6.32 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 15 2/3 innings with Toronto this past season.
