Parrino was designated for assignment Saturday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports. The A's needed to make room on the 40-man roster, and chose to DFA Parrino. The 29-year-old journeyman saw some spot duty in the middle infield with the big league club last season, but he hit just .152, and should be expected to spend most of 2015 in the minor leagues.
