New York Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer said he hopes to play in a rehab game at Port St. Lucie on Thursday as he continues to recover from a knee injury, and he may rejoin the big club in Tampa on Friday, according to Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers. Cuddyer has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 24, but it appears very possible that he could return after the minimum time out. Mets manager Terry Collins acknowledged earlier in the week that Cuddyer is feeling much better, but he will have to make it through at least one rehab game without any issues before the team considers activating him from the DL. Whenever he is activated, he may be relegated to a part-time role considering the Mets have added Michael Conforto and Yoenis Cespedes to the outfield in the time Cuddyer has been out.
