Nationals signed C Kelly Shoppach to a minor league contract. He'll report to Triple-A Syracuse. Shoppach was released by the Mariners last month after hitting just .196 with three home runs and a .635 OPS in 35 games. However, the 33-year-old backstop is useful depth to have around.
