Medlen (elbow) is headed to the Royals' spring training complex to face live hitters for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last March, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports. Medlen started throwing off a mound two weeks ago, so this is the logical next step in his progression. If everything goes well, he could start a minor-league rehab assignment by the end of May, which would give him a chance to join the Royals in June. The team doesn't have an obvious opening in its starting rotation, but a lot could happen over the next month or two.
