McGee (knee) threw off of a mound Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

McGee is still hoping to return to the Rays before the end of the regular season, but it's unclear whether or not that will happen as he works back from arthroscopic knee surgery last month. If McGee does return, he'd likely step back in as the Rays' primary closer, but considering the number of games remaining, he wouldn't be much of a fantasy option.
