Manager Ryne Sandberg said Ruf is not currently a candidate for playing time in right field, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. The Phillies have an opening with Domonic Brown landing on the disabled list at the start of the season. The team could use Ruf's power potential in the lineup, but his defensive skills in the outfield are the concern. He will see occasional starts at first base and possibly some time in left field if he earns a roster spot as expected.
