Kazmir (5-5) pitched eight sparkling innings, giving up no runs, no walks, and only two hits to go with seven strikeouts in Thursday's win over the Mariners. Kazmir retired 21 of his first 22 batters, allowing only a one-out double to Franklin Gutierrez on a 1-2 pitch in the fifth. Gutierrez also singled leading off the eight but was erased on a double play. Those were the only two hits allowed by Kazmir, who had his best performance in an Oakland uniform. He needed only 31 pitches to record the first nine outs, struck out each of Seattle's first four hitters at least once and fanned slugger Nelson Cruz twice. Kazmir will look to build on this performance in his next scheduled start Wednesday at the Yankees.
