Jay is not in the lineup Friday against the Reds, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Randal Grichuk will start in center field and bat eighth against right-hander Jason Marquis, pushing Jay to the bench after two straight starts. While it may seem strange that Jay is sitting in favor of a right-handed bat in this scenario, Grichuk has a strong spring (.911 OPS, four homers) and it seems manager Mike Matheny just wants to get him involved early. Jay is 2-for-8 with a double and two strikeouts so far this season.
