Gardner went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a walk but just one run scored in Tuesday's 5-3 loss at the hands of the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira went 0-for-8 behind Gardner, thus the lone run scored despite putting himself on base four times as the Yankees leadoff hitter. Teixeira, who recently announced he'd be retiring after the season, has been brutal, hitting just .196 with 28 RBI. His struggles have been somewhat of a burden on Gardner's run scoring potential, as Gardner has just 59 runs despite a .355 OBP that would be his best full-season mark since 2010. While Gardner is still the Yankees leadoff man, it might be best to lower expectations in categories such as runs and RBI somewhat given the Yankees current rebuilding state.
