Fiers allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Monday against the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Fiers can be nasty, but if he's off at all, his lack of velocity really shows. He has now allowed 78 hits and 11 home runs in just 66.2 innings this season. When Fiers was at his best, he was able to compensate by generating strikeouts with his offspeed stuff -- he struck out 180 batters in 180.1 innings last season and 76 in 71.2 innings in 2014, but has just 47 strikeouts this year. Unless Fiers can return to striking out a batter or more per inning, he's unlikely to regain his old successes, as he desperately needs to limit contact to get away with his mediocre stuff.
