Federowicz underwent surgery on his torn meniscus Friday and will be out 3-6 months, Jeff Sanders of the Union Tribune reports. The surgery uncovered a significant tear in Federowicz's meniscus that will keep him out for a huge chunk of the season. He was part of the trade that brought Matt Kemp over from the Dodgers and had a good shot at winning the backup catcher job coming into spring training. The fact that he'll be out for so long may force the Padres to make a move for another catcher, but for now, Wil Nieves will fill that role.
