Eovaldi (elbow) was removed from Wednesday's game after one inning of work with right elbow discomfort, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

Eovaldi will immediately fly back to New York for further evaluation after throwing just 12 pitches during his start in Boston. The 26-year-old hasn't missed any time due to an injury this season, but was shut down with inflammation in his right elbow during early September in 2015. In the case that this is more than just a minor setback, Eovaldi could be out for an extended period of time with the Yankees looking ahead to the future.
