Diamondbacks released 1B/OF Eric Hinske. Chris Gabel of the Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Hinske, 35, is expected to retire. The veteran outfielder/first baseman batted only .173/.259/.288 over 52 games for the D'Backs this season before being designated for assignment and ultimately outrighted last month. He's a career .249/.332/.430 hitter with 137 home runs over 12 major league seasons.
