Cowgill has struggled at the plate this spring, hitting just .132 (5-for-38) but his ability to handle all three outfield spots defensively may help him make the Opening Day roster, MLB.com reports. "It was hard, because he was struggling so much. But, what he does - the defensive player, the baserunner - the things he can do are there," manager Terry Francona said.
EDGE Analysis
Cowgill did have a pair of hits against Clayton Kershaw on Thursday and he may still make the Opening Day roster as the Indians figure to carry five outfielders to start the season but he may not have much of a role given the surprising spring of rookie Tyler Naquin.
