Cashner and the Padres avoided arbitration by agreeing on a one-year, $7.15 million deal, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
This could be the final year for Cashner with the Padres and the always friendly Petco Park. With 2016 settled, Cashner is set for a walk year and could be an attractive option in a very weak 2017 free agent pitcher class. That also means the Padres could trade Cashner if they can't cut it in a competitive NL West. The 29-year-old did disappoint in 2015, going 6-16 while registering a 4.34 ERA and his lowest K/BB rate since 2011.
