Carroll was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago reports. Carroll appeared in eight games in just over a month with the big league club, posting a 3.12 ERA while allowing six earned runs on 20 hits over 17.1 total relief innings. He'll return to Charlotte, where he's 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in three starts this season. In a corresponding move, the Sox called up Chris Beck for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader.
