Cardinals designated LHP Raul Valdes for assignment. He was cleared to make room for the newly-signed Arthur Rhodes on the 40-man roster. Valdes was optioned to the minors late last month and has a 3.38 ERA and 7/4 K/BB ratio over 5 1/3 innings with the Cards this season. There's a decent chance he'll pass through waivers unclaimed.
