Baker has posted a 4.32 ERA with seven strikeouts in 8.1 innings pitched this spring. Baker, who signed a minor league contract with the club in January, is unlikely to crack the big league roster but still has an outside chance at the fifth rotation spot or making the team as a long reliever. The 33-year-old tossed 4.1 scoreless innings Sunday allowing just one hit, and manager Joe Girardi indicated he was impressed with Baker's outing, so more strong performances down the stretch run of the spring could win him a roster spot by Opening Day.
