Heath Bell is the Diamondbacks' closer once again. J.J. Putz blew a save Monday in his first opportunity since returning from the disabled list, so the Diamondbacks are turning back to Bell. The hefty right-hander is doubtful to have much success but he needs to be owned in most standard fantasy formats for the time being. Josh Collmenter could be next in line now in Arizona.

Heath Bell converted his 14th save of the season with a scoreless 11th inning in Thursday's win over the Nationals. Bell allowed a one-out single to Adam LaRoche but struck out a batter as the Nats never really threatened. The big righty had allowed a homer in five straight outings but made a mechanical adjustment and looked good tonight. He should hold the closer job for a bit longer as the D'Backs ease J.J. Putz back into action.

Heath Bell said Wednesday that he has fixed a mechanical flaw that was leading to his recent struggles. Bell didn't reveal what it was, but he said he and Diamondbacks pitching coach Charles Nagy noticed it while watching video and he fixed it during a brief side session on Sunday. While technically still the team's closer despite giving up homers in each of his last five appearances, Bell is surely to give the role back to J.J. Putz when he returns from the DL later this week.

Diamondbacks manger Kirk Gibson said Sunday that Heath Bell remains the team's closer for now. It was a half-hearted endorsement, as Gibson also didn't dismiss the possibility of David Hernandez or Brad Ziegler being used in a save situation Sunday. With J.J. Putz also due back soon, Bell, who has allowed a home run in each of his last five relief appearances, is on very shaky ground.

Heath Bell blew his third save of the season Saturday against the Reds. The Diamondbacks rallied to win it in the bottom of the ninth inning to rescue the struggling right-hander. Bell has allowed a home run in each of his last five relief appearances and seems doubtful to be trusted with another save opportunity anytime soon. David Hernandez is a must-own in all standard fantasy leagues.

Heath Bell gave up a homer in a fourth straight appearance Wednesday, yet he still picked up his 13th save against the Marlins. The homer by Justin Ruggiano only brought the Marlins to within 3-1. Bell, however, did allow a hit and a walk afterwards as part of a 31-pitch ninth inning. Fortunately for him, the Diamondbacks now have Thursday off, giving him a chance to recover. Bell, though, is leaving the door wide open for J.J. Putz to reclaim closing duties should Putz's rehab progress as hoped.

Heath Bell was charged with the loss after allowing a ninth inning solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton in a tie game Monday. Entering a 2-2 contest in the top of the ninth, Bell struck out Ed Lucas before Stanton homered to right. Bell (4.23 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) has allowed a home run in three consecutive appearances. Consider it a course-correction after he enjoyed some good luck earlier this season. With J.J. Putz (elbow) close to returning, the clock on Bell's reign as closer may be ticking.

Heath Bell gave up his second homer in two days Wednesday against the Dodgers. Bell was working with a four-run lead, so the fact that he allowed a solo homer and another run didn't cost the Diamondbacks. Still, it's a bit of a concern that he's suddenly allowed homers to Juan Uribe and Ramon Hernandez the last two days. He had gone 25 straight appearances without giving up a homer after allowing two in his season debut April 2.

Heath Bell earned his 10th save Tuesday as the Diamondbacks beat the Cardinals 7-6 in 14 innings. Bell yielded a leadoff double to Yadier Molina to open the bottom of the 14th but David Freese and Pete Kozma struck out swinging and Jon Jay hit into a groundout. Bell is not the safest fantasy closer, but he hasn't allowed an earned run since May 12 and is obviously worth owning for now. Arizona has a two-game lead over San Francisco in the National League West standings.

Despite surrendering a double in the ninth, Heath Bell picked up his second save in two days Wednesday against the Braves. B.J. Upton nearly plated a run with a hard shot up the middle with two outs, but Martin Prado grabbed it and threw to first to end the game. The Diamondbacks had a two-run lead anyway, so it wouldn't have been the end of the world. Bell has five saves in six opportunities the last eight days.
