Doubront (elbow) began a throwing program Wednesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The 28-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this season, so it's an encouraging sign for his progress that he's begun a throwing program before the end of the summer. The timeline hasn't changed for Doubront per se and he won't be back on a mound again until 2017, but for him to be at the sock toss portion of the throwing program already at this point in his recovery is a positive. If he continues to progress at this rate, Doubront could be back before June of next season.

Doubront (elbow) was moved to the 60-day DL on Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

EDGE Analysis

Doubront underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this month, and he'll miss the entire 2016 season. The move to the 60-day DL is essentially a formality, and it clears a spot on the 40-man roster, which the Athletics will use on outfielder Matt McBride, whose contract was selected Wednesday.

Doubront (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The left-hander received a second opinion on his elbow injury Monday, and his doctor decided that there was enough damage to require surgery. Doubront was supposed to be the Athletics' fifth starter, but he was sidelined with elbow tightness following his final spring start and will now likely miss the rest of the season with the injury. Now that he is going to miss the rest of the season, Jesse Hahn could take over as the fifth starter for Oakland.

Doubront is scheduled for a second opinion on his left elbow sprain next Monday in Cincinnati, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

EDGE Analysis

Doubront will visit with Dr. Timothy Cremchek to determine the extent of the injury, but Nick Paparesta, the Athletics' head trainer, confirmed that the lefty has some "fibrous tearing" in his elbow ligament, according to Joe Stiglich of CSN Bay Area. Whether or not surgery is ordered up, Doubront appears to be facing a long recovery, which could open the door for Jesse Hahn to enter the rotation.

Doubront (left elbow sprain) will get a second opinion, and is not sure if surgery is in his future, the Bay Area News Group's John Hickey reports.

EDGE Analysis

Second opinions are rarely good signs with arm issues for pitchers, so we will cautiously await the results. Eric Surkamp will slot into Doubront's rotation spot for now, but Jesse Hahn is probably a more likely long-term option if Doubront is in for a lengthy absence.

Doubront (forearm) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

EDGE Analysis

Doubront was expected to open the season as the Atheletics' fifth starter, but this ends that plan. The issue originally cropped up on Saturday during his final spring appearance, and the results of an MRI apparently showed enough to put the left-hander on the shelf. Jesse Hahn or Eric Surkamp are likely to take his spot in the rotation. In a corresponding move, Andrew Lambo was recalled from Triple-A Nashville.

Doubront (forearm) and the Athletics are awaiting the results of an MRI before finalizing their roster for Opening Day.

EDGE Analysis

Doubront left his final spring start Saturday after just four batters. "You could see the velocity was way down for him in the first, so we got him out of there," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "Not sure where it's going to go. We'll probably know more a little bit later." If Doubront is forced to miss time, Jesse Hahn would likely replace him in the rotation.

Doubront departed Saturday's spring game with tightness in his forearm, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.

EDGE Analysis

Doubront exited after just one inning, and at this point it's unclear whether he's dealing with anything more severe than simple tightness. He's penciled in as Oakland's fifth starter this season, but if he's forced to miss any time that responsibility would likely transfer to Jesse Hahn.

Doubront will open the year as the A's fifth starter, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

EDGE Analysis

Jesse Hahn's demotion Tuesday seemed to cement Doubront into the rotation, and manager Bob Melvin later confirmed that the lefty will serve as the No. 5 starter to begin the season. Doubront will have one more spring tuneup Saturday in preparation for his first regular season start, April 8 at Seattle.

Doubront is likely to open the regular season in Oakland's starting rotation, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

EDGE Analysis

Doubront had been good this spring until giving up seven runs Thursday, but many of Oakland's projected rotation have not performed well, which has opened up an opportunity.
