Jackson pitched well against the Giants, but he ended up getting the short end of his duel with Madison Bumgarner. The ageless veteran has been solid in his four trips to the mound this season, as he's posted three quality starts in those four outings. All told, he's sporting a 2.59 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP through an admittedly small sample size of 24.1 innings.

Jackson (1-0) picked up the win in Saturday's 7-2 victory over Cleveland, allowing two runs on only two hits over 6.2 innings while striking out six.

Both hits were solo homers, but otherwise the 34-year-old was in full control all afternoon. It's his first win in an A's uniform, but no matter what colors he wears Jackson has always been tough on Cleveland -- he's now won 10 straight decisions against the club, with his last loss to them coming over a decade ago in his first full season as a starting pitcher with the Rays. Jackson has given Oakland two quality starts in two outings, and he'll take a 2.13 ERA into his next start Saturday on the road in a rematch with Cleveland.

He pitched well enough to get the win, but Oakland's offense didn't get on the board until they scored five runs in the final three innings. While this was a great way to kick off his tenure with the A's, he will face a much more difficult lineup in his next outing Saturday at home against the Indians.

Jackson was called up by the Athletics on Monday and will start against the Tigers.

Jackson is set to appear for his 13th major-league team. He'll have a fairly easy opponent, though it may be hard for fantasy owners to trust him, as he's posted an ERA north of 5.00 in each of the last two seasons and three of the last four. The A's don't necessarily trust him either, as they've only turned to him after six other starters have gotten injured, though he does have a respectable 3.53 ERA in 13 starts at the Triple-A level this season. Liam Hendriks was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Jackson signed a minor-league deal with the Athletics on Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The veteran is expected to be officially assigned to Triple-A Nashville, where he'll serve as organizational depth for the time being. The Athletics saw Daniel Gossett (elbow) become the latest of their pitchers to succumb to injury when he hit the disabled list Tuesday, and the right-hander's absence is expected to extend for multiple weeks. Before opting out of his contract with the Nationals last Thursday, Jackson had posted a 3.40 ERA over 10 starts with Triple-A Syracuse after failing to garner an Opening Day roster spot this past spring.

Jackson gave up three homers in 11 innings with the big-league team this spring -- not good enough to put any real heat on A.J. Cole for the fifth starter job. The right-hander seemed done as a starter a few years ago, but he's made a combined 26 starts in the majors over the past two seasons. It seems likely he will resurface somewhere, sometime in 2018.

While there were some promising moments from Jackson at points in the second half, the 34-year-old veteran has proven time and time again over the past number of seasons that's he's not a reliable fantasy asset game in, game out.
