Gearrin surrendered two runs on three hits while retiring just one batter in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin has struggled since returning from the disabled list Aug. 18, surrendering five runs in just 1.2 innings. After posting a 2.16 ERA and 13 holds through his first 36 appearances, Gearrin fell off the map in middle of the summer months before being placed on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Even if he rights the ship, he likely still won't have value in leagues that count holds due to the strong play of Derek Law, Hunter Strickland and Sergio Romo who have all solidified their roles as late-inning options for the Giants.

Gearrin (shoulder) was activated off the 15-day disabled list Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin takes the place of right-hander Matt Cain, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained lower back. The 30-year-old reliever has made three rehab appearances over the past week, notching three scoreless frames and registering zero free passes. He'll add a righty arm for the Giants out of the bullpen.

Gearrin (shoulder) will make one more rehab appearance at Triple-A Sacramento before returning to the Giants, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin is healthy enough to return, but the Giants are still trying to figure out how he will fit onto the Giants' 25-man roster. Expect a decision to come shortly, but this appearance will buy San Francisco's management another day or two to think things over.

Gearrin (shoulder) tossed scoreless innings in rehab games Friday and Saturday with Triple-A Sacramento.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin looks like he's ready to come off the DL and rejoin the Giants, but the team might be challenged to create room for him on the 25-man roster. The right-hander was serviceable, but not spectacular in 37 innings out of the bullpen with the big club earlier this season, contributing a 3.89 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 29 strikeouts.

Gearrin threw a scoreless inning in a rehab outing on Monday for Triple-A Sacramento, Alex Pavlovic of of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
If his rehab continues to go well without any setbacks, Gearrin is expected to rejoin the Giants at some point later this week. Gearrin won't likely pitch in many high-leverage situations with the recent acquisition of left-hander Will Smith from the Brewers.

Gearrin (shoulder) has joined Triple-A Sacramento and is ready to begin a rehab assignment, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
A little more than three weeks removed from landing on the DL, Gearrin is ready to return to active competition with the Giants' top minor league affiliate. It's uncertain how long he'll need to prepare for a return to the majors, but the team may want to see Gearrin throw on back-to-back days before activating him.

Gearrin (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, and if all goes well, he will head out on a rehab assignment, Amy Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin has been slowly rebuilding strength in his right shoulder over the past several weeks, and now appears on the verge of joining a minor league affiliate. The 30-year-old was pitching well before landing on the disabled list, posting a 3.89 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 14 holds in 41 appearances. It's hard to imagine he'll be in the mix for saves at any point this year, however, with Hunter Strickland and Sergio Romo looming as the top options behind closer Santiago Casilla.

Gearrin (shoulder) threw a bullpen session at the team's spring training complex Tuesday, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports.
EDGE Analysis
It is unclear when he will be able to come off the DL, but for now it sounds like he is progressing in his rehab. Gearrin will offer relief in the middle innings for the Giants once he is healthy.

Gearrin (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list prior to Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin will hit the DL with a right shoulder sprain after blowing Tuesday's lead against Colorado during two-thirds of an inning of work. The 30-year-old reliever had been pitching well most of the year, but has allowed eight runs over his last five appearances in 3.2 innings of work. Gearrin should be able to return to the club a week after the All-Star Break, but may be sent down to Triple-A if the Giants feel as though his declining production wasn't due to the injury.

Gearrin blew the lead Tuesday, giving up four runs over 0.2 innings against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Gearrin was ineffective Tuesday, allowing four of the six batters he faced to reach base. The big blow was dealt by Nolan Arenado when he smashed a hanging slider into left field giving the Rockies the lead and the win. Gearrin has now imploded twice over his past five outings, surrendering two home runs over that span. As a sinker-slider-changeup reliever, he will not be successful if he doesn't keep his pitches down in the strike zone, something he is having trouble with right now. While he carried some value in leagues that count holds, it may be best to look at other options until he rights the ship.
