Hart's solo seventh inning round-tripper against Fernando Salas was a tattooed line drive right down broadway and over Mike Trout's head in center. The 6-foot-6, 230-pounder has been all-or-nothing at the dish so far this season, bopping three homers and two singles over 22 at-bats for a .227 average and .636 slugging percentage.

Corey Hart is not in the starting lineup for the Mariners season opener against the Angels on Monday. Manager Lloyd McClendon announced Sunday that the veteran outfielder will be spotted against left-handers early in the season, and will DH in the team's next two games.

The fact that he's in line to play a big league game Saturday should rule out any chances that he might need a disabled list stint. That's provided that he doesn't have a setback, of course.

Mariners skipper Lloyd McClendon said Corey Hart (forearm, back) will get most of his early-season at-bats at DH. We can extrapolate a few other projections from this pronouncement: 1.) The odds of a Kendrys Morales return to Seattle appear to be just about zero, 2.) Abraham Almonte should garner the bulk of CF at-bats, with Michael Saunders spelling him, and, 3.) Saunders will join Stefen Romero and Logan Morrison in a free-for-all for RF at-bats. Playing Morrison in the outfield is ill-advised, but roster construction from above really doesn't afford McClendon much choice unless Hart is on the DL or Justin Smoak is benched.

Corey Hart (forearm, back) is out of the lineup for the third consecutive day on Sunday. Hart's body has been subjected to a surgeon's scalpel numerous times in his life, and his surgically-repaired knees need some acclimation time after resting for the duration of the 2013 campaign, but this is discouraging news eight days out from Opening Day. Hart, who signed a one-year, $5 million free agent contract with the Mariners in mid-December, should have an attractive back-date if Seattle decides to begin his season on the DL.
