Friedrich agreed to a one-year deal with the Padres on Friday, avoiding arbitration.
EDGE Analysis
The terms of the agreement were not made public by the Padres. Friedrich posted a 4.80 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and dismal 100:52 K:BB in 129.1 innings last season, primarily as a starter. Despite those underwhelming numbers, he still projects to open the season in the Padres' rotation, but lacks fantasy appeal in most formats.

Friedrich suffered his 11th loss of the season Thursday versus the Giants, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six across seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty turned in one of his better outings of the season Thursday, but he took a hard-luck loss as Jeff Samardzija tossed a gem on the other side. Friedrich has alternated strong home starts with poor away starts over his last four, and he will look to finish the regular season on a high note as the Padres host the Dodgers on Thursday.

Friedrich allowed four runs on six hits and two walks across five innings Friday versus the Rockies. He struck out five and did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Freidrich was quite effective aside from the second inning, when the entirety of the damage against him was done as he allowed five consecutive Rockies to reach after recording the first two outs. Friedrich has posted rather pedestrian numbers this season, as he owns a 4.78 ERA and a 5-10 record to go along with a middling 7.04 K/9 rate across 116.2 innings. His next start will come Thursday against the Giants.

Friedrich is listed as the probable starter Saturday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
He is nearing a permanent move to the bullpen in an effort to manage his innings over the rest of the season, but he will apparently make at least one more start before making that move. Friedrich is best left on waivers in most formats, as he has a 5.48 ERA with just 31 strikeouts in 44.1 innings at home this season, and he will host a potent Rockies offense Saturday.

Friedrich allowed four runs on six hits and three walks across just 4.1 innings Sunday versus the Dodgers. He struck out four and did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Friedrich came out of the bullpen in his previous appearance so he was fresh for Sunday's start, but he ran out of steam in the fifth inning and was pulled after a Dodgers rally led to a pair of runs. The owner of a 4.99 ERA on the season, Friedrich is not currently slated to make another start in the immediate future, and should return to a bullpen role until he is needed in the starting rotation again.

Friedrich will rejoin the Padres' rotation Sunday against the Dodgers, MLB.com's AJ Cassavell reports.
EDGE Analysis
Friedrich has not pitched since last Tuesday, and he will get even a few more days off -- unless he is needed out of the bullpen -- before his next start.

Friedrich will skip his start Wednesday against Atlanta and move to the bullpen in an effort to control his workload, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Friedrich has already thrown 99.1 innings this season, a huge increase from 58.1 last season with Colorado. Manager Andy Green says the young left-hander could make one more start next month, but it's possible he could piggyback starts when Tyson Ross likely returns from the DL next month. Nonetheless, Friedrich will be limited to relief appearances until then as the health of his arm remains the priority. There's no word on who will take his place in the rotation, though the Padres may simply shift to a five-man rotation.

Friedrich (4-10) allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks over 5.1 innings in a loss Tuesday to the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Friedrich's losing streak is now extended to eight games, with his last win coming June 23 against Cincinnati. He walked four batters in a game for the fifth time in just 18 starts this season, and he lacks the swing-and-miss stuff (6.7 K/9) to get away with such inconsistencies in his control. Friedrich surrendered a pair of home runs to the powerful Cubs lineup, the second time this season he has allowed multiple homers in a start.

Friedrich (4-9) allowed just a two-run homer but with no run support, he lost his seventh straight decision 2-0. He also yielded six hits, one walk while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
A homer to Brad Miller was his only blemish on the day, but the Padres scored zero runs for the second straight time Friedrich was on the mound. Friedrich hasn't won a game since June 23. He threw 58 of his 96 pitches for strikes and induced 10 swings-and-misses. He will try to snap his losing streak in his next start Tuesday against the Cubs.

Friedrich (4-8) pitched six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out two Pirates in Thursday's loss.
EDGE Analysis
Friedrich remains winless since June 23 - a span of eight starts -- as he's now lost his last six decisions. With news that the Padres will be moving to a six-man rotation, and shutting the southpaw down in the coming weeks, Friedrich's fantasy value has all but dug itself underground. Although subject to change, Friedrich is currently scheduled to make his next start Tuesday at Tampa Bay, which may also be his last of the year.
