CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Reds are interested in acquiring a leadoff hitter, with Chone Figgins and Coco Crisp on their radar. Cincy have tried mostly Drew Stubbs and Chris Heisey in the leadoff spot this season, but Stubbs' OBP is just .331 and Heisey's is even worse at .305. Of course, Figgins and his anemic .230 mark entering Tuesday wouldn't seem like much of an upgrade in that regard. There's also the fact that Figgins is owed at least $17 million and possibly $26 million more on his contract, though obviously the Mariners would have to eat a sizable portion of that. Crisp is also getting on base only at a .312 clip.

Chone Figgins is the owner of a .476 OPS through his first 283 plate appearances this season. If you've still been waiting for him to turn things around, you can probably stop now. Since arriving in Seattle via a four-year, $36 million deal in December of 2009, Figgins has hit .236 while posting a .308 on-base percentage. His only real hope for a fantasy resurgence would be a move out of cavernous Safeco Field, but that would require the Mariners eating an extremely large chunk of his considerable remaining salary.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Friday that Chone Figgins will continue to lose playing time to Adam Kennedy at third base moving forward. Kennedy got the start over Figgins for the second straight day Friday. "Adam is going to get more time at third, as we've seen," said Wedge. "Figgy just has to hang tough and keep doing the work when he's not playing. When he does get in there to play, it's an opportunity for him to move forward." Figgins is batting just .190 with a .238 on-base percentage and .492 OPS over 267 plate appearances this season. He's still guaranteed $9 million in 2012 and $8 million in 2013.

Chone Figgins is hitting only .204/.278/.265 this month. That slash line is actually slightly better than his season line, but it's all still awful. Figgins is not making good contact, not getting on base, and not doing great things defensively. With only eight stolen bases in 14 attempts, he is not an option in mixed fantasy leagues.
