Quentin hit his first home run of spring training Tuesday and also saw time at first base for the first time in his career. The rumors of Quentin spending time at first this spring have now become a reality as the Padres' crowded outfield situation and Quentin's injury history have limited his chances of seeing time in the outfield. Manager Bud Black is encouraged by Quentin's performance this spring, saying, "We're happy that he's healthy, he's going through ballgames. That's the first time it's happened in three springs that he's been here," in a Union-Tribune report. Quentin's role with the team moving forward remains uncertain, but he is off to a good start in his new gig at first.

Quentin (knee) will work out at first base this spring, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports. Although Quentin has no experience at first base, it makes sense for the Padres to give him a look there, as the veteran is on his last legs as an outfielder. Long considered injury prone, Quentin hasn't reached 400 at-bats since 2011, and he no longer has a starting job in the San Diego outfield. Barring a trade to the American League, he'll likely be limited to a bench role, if his health even allows that.

Quentin (knee) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Monday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Manager Bud Black acknowledged last week that Quentin likely wouldn't make hit back this season, but his move to the 60-day DL all but assures that he won't return in 2014. Quentin played in a career-low 50 games this season, hitting a dismal .177/.284/.315 across 155 plate appearances, and it wouldn't be a surprise if the Padres moved on in the offseason.

Quentin (knee) will likely miss the remainder of the season, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Quentin hasn't played in a game since July 25, when he exited early with the knee injury. The veteran outfielder has struggled with injuries in the past, and this season is no exception, as Quentin has played in just 50 games for the Padres.

Quentin received a second opinion on his left knee, which confirmed a bone bruise, MLB.com reports. "He's not going to be returning anytime soon," manager Bud Black said. "Rest is prescribed." Quentin last took the field on July 26 and is no guarantee to do so before the season concludes. His absence should continue until further notice.

Padres placed OF Carlos Quentin on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his left knee. Injuries have been the underlying theme throughout Quentin's career, and his tenure in San Diego has been no different. He has appeared in just 50 games this season, slashing .177/.284/.315 with four homers and 18 RBI.

Carlos Quentin (knee) is not in the Padres' lineup Sunday. He was originally back in there after missing a start with a sore knee but wound up being a late scratch. Quentin was able to pinch-hit Saturday and presumably will again be available off the bench.

Carlos Quentin was removed from Friday's game against the Braves with an apparent injury. It's unclear what exactly happened, but Quentin looked frustrated after striking out in his final at bat, and Will Venable entered the game defensively as a replacement for him. It's likely that he aggravated his recent left shoulder injury.

Carlos Quentin doubled, singled and drove in three runs Friday against the Dodgers. Quentin raised his average to .175 with the performance! He's still just 10-for-75 (.133) since the beginning of July, but if he can stay healthy for a while, he should begin to pick it up.
