The Rangers selected Thompson's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. He'll start in left field and bat ninth in his MLB debut Thursday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson's poor plate approach (5.9 percent walk rate at Triple-A) has slowed his ascent to the big leagues and leads to questions about his ability to stick as a regular at the game's top level, but there's no denying that the 24-year-old possesses a tantalizing power/speed skill set. He's put those tools on full display for Round Rock this season, banging out 29 extra-base hits while going a 49-for-52 on stolen-base attempts over 375 plate appearances. The speed upside in particular will make righty-hitting Thompson an intriguing flier in deeper mixed leagues, especially if he can avoid a short-side platoon role. He'll be making his first career start against a righty (Johnny Cueto), perhaps hinting that Thompson may get at least a cursory look as a full-time player.

Thompson (eye) has gone 2-for-16 with a walk, two runs and an RBI in his four games since rejoining the Triple-A Round Rock lineup Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
After taking a flyball to the face in an April 23 game and experiencing significant swelling near his left eye, Thompson remained out of the lineup for only four games before taking back an everyday role for Round Rock. The 23-year-old hasn't quite met expectations since he was selected in the first round of the 2017 first-year player draft, but he's off to a solid start to the season at Triple-A. Through 80 plate appearances, Thompson is hitting .333 with six extra-base hits and seven stolen bases.

Thompson is scheduled to be re-evaluated Tuesday while he deals with a swollen left eye, an injury he suffered after taking a pop fly off the face Saturday during Triple-A Round Rock's game against Albuquerque, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 2017 first-round pick, who went 2-for-2 with a home run and a triple Saturday, won't play in Sunday's series finale with Albuquerque. Thompson required stitches to seal a gash above his eye, and he still has vision despite dealing with considerable swelling on the left side of his face. The 23-year-old outfielder is off to a hot start to 2022, slashing .387/.387/.565 with six extra-base hits and seven stolen bases across 62 plate appearances for Round Rock.

Thompson was added to the Rangers' player pool Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson will get the chance to work out with the Rangers' coaching staff over the final few weeks of the season but is highly unlikely to make his big-league debut. He's yet to reach Double-A and hit just .178/.261/.312 in 57 games for High-A Down East last season.

Thompson (hamate bone) has been activated from the injured list, according to Scott Lucas of the Newberg Report.
EDGE Analysis
This is slightly ahead of schedule for Thompson, who suffered the injury in mid-April. The Rangers' first-round pick in 2017 will continue to ply his wares at High-A Down East, where he was struggling before the injury.

Thompson suffered a fractured left hamate bone and will miss approximately four weeks, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson was off to a slow start with High-A Down East before suffering the injury, which will require surgery to repair, hitting just .150/.209/.200 with a pair of doubles and a pair of stolen bases through 12 games. The 20-year-old prospect is still a couple of years away from the majors, so the rebuilding Rangers figure to handle him with care during his recovery.

Thompson went 4-for-6 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored for Low-A Hickory on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson is surging for the Crawdads, batting .471 (16-for-34) with three home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored over the last eight games. The 20-year-old center fielder is known more for his speed (28 steals), but has cleared the fence eight times in 2018, adding a bit of power projection to his scouting report. The 2017 first-round pick has exceeded expectations with a .295 batting average, but warning signs abound. Thompson has a 26.6 K% with an unsustainable BABIP of .389.

Thompson went 8-for-26 (.308) with two RBI and three steals for Low-A Hickory over six games this past week.
EDGE Analysis
Thompson had gone 27 at-bats without a hit before a three-hit game to start his six-game run. The Rangers' first-round pick (26th overall) in the 2017 draft is slashing .252/.311/.397 in 38 games for the Crawdads.

Thompson went 2-for-5 with two RBI in his first game for Low-A Hickory of the South Atlantic League.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers' first-round pick in 2017, the 19-year-old Thompson spent the first five weeks of the season in extended spring training recovering from a minor knee injury, per Mark Parker of the Hickory Record before getting placed at a full-season affiliate. Thompson's hit tool is the biggest question mark, but the Rangers were confident enough to place him in the Sally instead of holding him back for short-season Spokane in the Northwest League.

Thompson was assigned to Low-A Hickory on Wednesday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers selected the toolsy prep outfielder with the 26th overall pick in last year's draft, and he proceeded to hit .257/.317/.434 with three home runs and five steals in 30 games in the AZL. He had been working out at the Rangers' complex in Arizona, and the big club apparently thinks he is ready for his first taste of full-season pitching. Thompson's power and speed potential make him a high-upside prospect to roster in deeper dynasty leagues, but there may be some struggles at the plate as he advances through the system.
