Mitchell will not start Sunday against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell was set to be recalled for the matinee of Sunday's doubleheader, but Saturday's 16-inning marathon altered the team's original plans. In search for a proven starter, CC Sabathia will get the call to the mound, with the hope he can preserve a taxed bullpen crew through a lengthy start. Mitchell may still get a chance to join the rotation sometime next week, though the long-term plans remain unknown at this point.

Mitchell will start Game 1 of the Yankees' Sunday doubleheader against the Red Sox, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
A frequent shuttle rider, the swingman has been an important overall piece of the Yankees' pitching staff, despite his 5.06 ERA. Though he may be needed for longer -- the Yankees have not announced when Michael Pineda or CC Sabathia will pitch next -- Mitchell may wind up merely being the 26th man for his assignment and return to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre soon afterward. Most fantasy players justifiably will be too risk-averse to use him against Boston, as well.

Mitchell was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell's demotion clears up a spot on the active roster for CC Sabathia (hamstring), who was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday against the Blue Jays. Though Mitchell was able to nab a three-inning save over the weekend against the Astros, his services weren't needed in long relief with Luis Cessa set to move to the bullpen and assume those duties now that Sabathia has taken Cessa's rotation spot.

Mitchell picked up his first save of the season Friday, giving up one run on two hits with one strikeout over three innings of relief in a 13-4 win over the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
The Yankees handed him a 10-3 lead when he entered the game, and Mitchell fired an efficient 30 pitches (24 strikes) to record his second career save and give the rest of the bullpen a breather. Given that he likely won't be available for a few days anyway, don't be surprised if the team rewards his effort with a demotion back to Triple-A in order to bring up a fresh arm.

Mitchell was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday, Brendan Kuty of NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell is back with the Yankees after compiling a 4.18 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 28 innings (eight starts) with Triple-A. He's served primarily as a starter in the minors, so he should be able to offer some length out of the Yankees' bullpen. Ronald Herrera was sent back to the minors in a corresponding move.

Mitchell was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Though the two runs charged to Mitchell in his appearance Tuesday against the Orioles were unearned, it still marked the third time in four outings that he had failed to keep the opposition off the board. Once Mitchell turns in a string of quality outings in the minors, he could get the call back to the big club to serve as a long reliever. The team recalled Giovanny Gallegos in a corresponding move Wednesday to shore up the bullpen.

Mitchell was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell made the Yankees' Opening Day roster as a bullpen arm, but was demoted to Triple-A on May 1 after posting a 6.35 ERA over his first 11.1 innings of relief. Though he posted just a 4.00 ERA with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Mitchell will return to the big-league bullpen as a low-leverage relief arm.

Mitchell was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell simply wasn't getting it done early on this season, prompting the Yankees to try something new in their bullpen. In 11.1 innings of work, the 26-year-old right-hander posted a 6.35 ERA to go along with a disappointing 4.76 walks per nine innings. If he can get things together at the Triple-A level, there is a decent chance he could find his way back to New York's bullpen by season's end.

Mitchell will start the 2017 season as a relief pitcher, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell slipped during his latest spring start, which might've contributed to him losing out on a rotation spot. The right-hander posted a 3.24 ERA in 26 appearances (nine starts) with the big-league club last year, but he only struck out 12 batters and walked 11 in that time, so that sparkling number doesn't look too realistic. Even with this initial assignment, Mitchell should find himself in position to start at least a few games during the year.

Mitchell is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 18.2 innings of Grapefruit League work.
EDGE Analysis
Mitchell was in the mix last year in spring training as well, but he suffered a toe injury in the last week of March that ended up sidelining the righty until August. As of now, there look to be two spots unaccounted for in the Yankees' rotation, but there could be as many as six pitchers competing for those roles, so it remains unclear how Mitchell will be utilized. If he doesn't win a spot in the starting rotation on the Opening Day roster, the 25-year-old could be headed back to Triple-A to stay stretched out as a starter.
