Hayes was designated for assignment Sunday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

With Yan Gomes (knee) returning from the disabled list for Sunday's game against the Reds, the Indians had no use for keeping Hayes around as a third catcher. The 31-year-old went 5-for-32 (.156) during his stay with the Indians, and owns a lifetime line of .205/.250/.359. Expect any interest in Hayes from other clubs to be tempered.
