Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Sunday that Cecil (shoulder) will likely start a rehab assignment by the weekend, Fox Sports Midwest reports.
EDGE Analysis
Because Cecil covered limited innings in the Grapefruit League and then landed on the disabled list shortly after Opening Day with a shoulder strain, Mozeliak said that the Cardinals would "recreate" spring training for the left-hander to compensate for the extended time off. That could mean that Cecil will need nearly the entire 20-day rehab window before being activated from the DL, likely at some point in mid-to-late May. Once available, Cecil will offer the Cardinals a quality left-handed option out of the bullpen, but he's unlikely to be a consistent source of holds or deliver stellar ratios.

Cecil (shoulder) remains "out indefinitely" according to president of baseball operations John Mozeliak and will likely head to the club's spring complex in Jupiter, Fla. in the near future, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mozeliak added that Cecil will remain in Jupiter "for some time" in an attempt to build up his endurance. The veteran southpaw reported pain in his shoulder after recording just one out in his season debut on March 29, and his stay in extended spring training will hopefully afford him the chance to work back up to speed at "a pace that benefits him" according to Mozeliak.

Cecil (shoulder) is nearing a rehab assignment, Brian Still of St. Louis Baseball Weekly reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injured lefty threw 35 pitched Friday and is expected to throw his next bullpen session Sunday. If all goes well, Cecil would then embark on a rehab assignment. No word as to how long he'll remain in the minors rehabbing has come out, but it seems like he's in line to return sometime in early May.

Cecil (shoulder, foot) won't return to action for "at least a few weeks" according to general manager Michael Girsch, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cecil did make some progress Tuesday, shedding the walking boot he'd been wearing to battle right foot tendinitis. However, his sprained left shoulder apparently remains a significant enough concern to still saddle with him with a prolonged recovery timetable.

Cecil (shoulder) is also dealing with left foot tendinitis, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This explains why the reliever was seen in a walking boot Sunday. It's unclear if this injury adds time to Cecil's return timeline or not, but general manager Mike Girsch currently thinks he's "a few weeks" away from returning.

Cecil (shoulder) was seen wearing a walking boot Sunday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cecil is on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder sprain but is apparently also being bothered by a foot or ankle injury. Manager Mike Matheny did report that it's only a minor injury and that the boot is only a temporary thing. Cecil is eligible to come off the DL on April 10, though it's unclear if he'll be ready to return to action at that time or not.

Cecil will get an MRI and a second opinion on his strained left shoulder, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
According to the report, nothing alarming was found on the first scan, and the Cardinals placed him on the 10-day DL while they figure out exactly what he's dealing with. That said, a second opinion on a shoulder strain is not ideal. He wasn't going to get saves anyway, and can be dropped in the vast majority of formats.

Cecil was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain prior to Saturday's game.
EDGE Analysis
Cecil appears to have suffered the injury during Thursday's Opening Day contest against the Mets, in which he faced two batters to get out of the fifth inning. At this point, there has been no word as to the severity of his injury and he will be eligible to return off the DL on April 10. In a corresponding move, the Cardinals recalled Ryan Sherriff from Triple-A Memphis.

Cecil made his spring debut Wednesday in a "B game" against the Marlins, tossing one inning and allowing a run on two hits, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cecil didn't enter spring training with any health concerns, but he's found himself behind the Cardinals' other pitchers after he was absent early on in camp due to a family matter. While the four-year contract Cecil signed two winters ago locks him into a spot in the Cardinals' Opening Day bullpen, his lack of innings this spring may prompt manager Mike Matheny to limit the lefty's exposure to high-leverage situations in early portion of the regular season.

Cecil threw at spring training for the first time Tuesday after missing time earlier in camp to tend to a family health matter, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cecil said that he hadn't thrown in a two-and-a-half weeks prior to returning to workouts Tuesday, so he estimated that he won't resume mound work until next week. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny suggested that Cecil would miss out on about three appearances during the exhibition slate due to the lefty's delayed start to the spring, but that should leave four or five outings available for Cecil before the spring schedule draws to a close. Cecil will vie for a setup role with the Cardinals after submitting a 3.88 ERA and 66 strikeouts over 67.1 innings a season ago.
