Brad Penny struggled against the White Sox on Thursday, allowing four runs in two innings. Penny was shelled, giving up eight hits and a walk. He surrendered two singles and two doubles in the fourth inning, leading to one run. In the fifth, the White Sox hit two singles, a double, a home run, and drew a walk leading to a three-spot. The outing hurts Penny's already slim chances of making the rotation.

A source tells MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo that the Royals have agreed to terms with Brad Penny on a minor league deal. The deal includes an invite to spring training. The 35-year-old didn't pitch at all in 2013 but has been throwing this offseason as he attempts a comeback. He'll be given a chance to win a job in the team's rotation this spring.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post hears Brad Penny "has thrown well this winter." There hasn't been a lot of public interest expressed in Penny thus far this offseason, but Renck suggests he could be a very low-risk signing for a team in search of pitching. Renck clarified that the team he covers, the Rockies, haven't shown interest in the right-hander, just that Penny is working on a comeback. The 35-year-old didn't pitch in 2013 but he's not considering retirement yet. Penny is 119-100 with a 4.26 ERA in 13 major league seasons.

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that teams have reached out to Brad Penny to express interest. Cotilllo reported last month that Penny plans to make a comeback in 2014, and it sounds like there are clubs that will be willing to give him a shot. A showcase for interested parties "should be set soon," according to Cotillo. Penny, 35, took this past season off to recharge his batteries, but he's not ready to call it a career.

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that Brad Penny plans to make a comeback in 2014. Penny, 35, took this past season off to recharge his batteries, but he's not ready to call it a career. The veteran right-hander last posted a 6.11 ERA over 22 relief appearances for the Giants in 2012. He's obviously going to have to settle for a non-guaranteed deal.

Brad Penny (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday at High-A San Jose. Penny has been on the disabled list since August 14 with a right shoulder impingement. He's likely to spend over a week making rehab appearances. The 34-year-old right-hander has posted a brutal 6.86 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 21 innings of relief this season for San Francisco.

Giants placed RHP Brad Penny on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness. Penny dealt with shoulder issues back in June and has admitted to being sore in his last few appearances. He'll likely undergo an MRI, at which point the Giants will have a better idea how long he'll be out. Dan Otero takes his spot on the roster.

Giants purchased the contract of RHP Brad Penny from Triple-A Fresno. This move was made corresponding to Shane Loux heading to the DL. In seven games at Triple-A, Penny compiled a 5.40 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and unimpressive 3/3 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 innings. Penny will serve in a long-relief role with the Giants and has no value in fantasy leagues.

The Giants will soon face a decision on whether to promote Brad Penny or give him his release so he can seek an opportunity elsewhere. Penny is over a shoulder issue and pitched in back-to-back games for Triple-A Fresno this past week for the first time. He has a loose "out" clause in his contract that he can exercise if he deems himself big league-ready but the Giants disagree. Penny holds a 10.38 ERA in five games for Fresno, but catcher Eli Whiteside said the righty looks "pretty good."

Brad Penny has been scratched from a scheduled start for Triple-A Fresno Monday with shoulder soreness. It was assumed that Penny would join San Francisco's big club later this month, but that timetable now looks in jeopardy. Expected to be used in long relief when he does join the Giants, Penny's fantasy value this season is close to non-existent either way.
