Alex Gonzalez hit a three-run homer to pace the Brewers offense in their 7-4 victory over the Cubs on Tuesday. The first inning long ball was Gonzalez' lone hit of the night, finishing 1-for-4, but it was more than enough to lead the Brewers to victory. He's only hitting .235 on the young season, but does provide a powerful bat at the bottom of the Brewers lineup.

The option vests if he reaches 525 plate appearances, which he has done in each of the last two seasons. The 34-shortstop year-old earned $2.5 million in 2011 while batting .241/.270/.372 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI over 593 plate appearances. While he's essentially a wash offensively with Yuniesky Betancourt, he is a major upgrade from a defensive standpoint.

Gonzalez, 34, batted .241/.270/.372 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI over 593 plate appearances this past season for the Braves and will take over as Milwaukee's starting shortstop in 2012. He should remain a decent fantasy option.
