Iwakuma pitched 6.2 scoreless innings Wednesday vs. the Blue Jays, striking out five and capturing his 11th win of the season. A first-inning two-run homer from Kendrys Morales was all the cushion Iwakuma needed in mowing down the Jays, who did at least manage to push his pitch count over 100 during the seventh inning. It was the first time in eight starts that Iwakuma failed to cover seven innings, but the Mariners were probably more than satisfied with the run prevention work he displayed Wednesday. With a 2.72 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 139 innings, Iwakuma can make a strong argument that he's the best No. 2 pitcher in the majors.
