According to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Twins recently explored a contract extension with Kurt Suzuki but "the talks didn't go very far." Suzuki is having a career year offensively, boasting a .305/.364/.389 batting line in 82 games, and may look to cash in on the open market this winter given that productive catchers are in high demand. He signed a one-year, $2.75 million free agent contract with Minnesota last offseason. The Twins could shop the 30-year-old catcher at the July 31 trade deadline if they don't feel like they can afford to re-sign him.
