Jason Vargas (appendectomy) is not expected to need a rehab assignment before rejoining the Royals' rotation. He's not close to returning, however, as Vargas is only a week removed from a 3-4 week timetable following an appendectomy. The left-hander is not with the Royals on their road trip but has been playing catch.
