Henderson Alvarez improved to 5-3, allowing two runs (one earned) over 6 2/3 innings as the Marlins defeated the Phillies 3-2 on Wednesday. That's now seven consecutive starts in which Alvarez has allowed two runs or fewer. Of the seven hits Alvarez allowed, only one went for extra bases. He also yielded only two walks while striking out three. The right-hander has an impressive 2.32 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and a 64/20 K/BB ratio. He'll face the Phillies again in his next start, but he'll have the benefit of home field advantage.
