Juan Oviedo picked up his first save for the Rays on Monday despite giving up a solo homer to Delmon Young in the ninth. We're not sure whether the original plan was for Jake McGee or Oviedo in the ninth, but McGee was needed in a 3-2 game after Grant Balfour got into trouble in the eight. McGee allowed one of the two runners he inherited to score, resulting in a blown save, and though he preserved the tie, he wasn't brought back out after the Rays scored twice in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. McGee and Oviedo likely are the favorites for saves for however long the Rays stick with this odd committee they're using. They probably could have made things easier on themselves had they just bypassed Balfour entirely tonight and had McGee or Oviedo start the eighth.
