Athletics signed RHP Joe Blanton to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Sacramento. Blanton, a first-round pick of the A's in 2002, was released by the Angels at the end of spring camp after allowing 22 hits and 16 earned runs in 20 1/3 innings. He's doubtful to make a positive impact for Oakland.
