Samardzija (4-5) took the loss on Friday against the Astros as he allowed four runs on six hits through seven innings pitched, while striking out nine hitters. It was a strange night for Samardzija as he got hurt by Jon Singleton and Chris Carter home runs, but was dominant otherwise. Samardzija stayed ahead of hitters and just had a couple of poor-placed pitches that did him in.
