The Pirates have yet to clarify the specific injury Alvarez (foot) is suffering from or its prognosis, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Manager Clint Hurdle initially called the injury a sprain between two toes, but the third baseman has used a walking boot. In his last 10 games, Alvarez has eight hits in 30 at-bats, including three homers, one double and two stolen bases. The Pirates are expected to release additional information about Alvarez's status Friday afternoon.
